About me

Welcome to the official website of the Independent Mum’s Handbook, an information resource designed for mums at every stage of their journey towards financial independence.

Whether you’re a new mum, a getting-there mum, an experienced mum or a soon-to-be-mum, my mission is to empower you to achieve the independence that defines you as the individual you are.

As a mother of two, I am no stranger to the challenges of parenthood. But I’ve always had a true passion for social mobility, and I believe that, armed with the right knowledge, a good dose of inspiration, and a sharp shot of confidence, every mother can find a way to shape the future of their dreams.

My mission is to equip parents with all they need to get to where they want to be in terms of personal fulfilment, independently achieving their goals of financial fitness, and mental stamina.

I consider myself an advocate for personal growth and contentment, dedicated to helping people find the inner strength and support they need to succeed.

“It’s essential to remember that whilst you are first and foremost a dedicated parent, you must never lose sight of who you are as a person, and that your hopes and dreams, and the independence that goes with them, should always remain a focal point in your life.”

Whether you have a vision of starting your own business; are studying to accelerate your career, or re-training for a new lease of life, or you just want to take your current financial situation by the horns and get it on course to deliver your future goals, my aim is to provide the valuable life skills, helpful direction, and knowledge and encouragement that will help steer you in the right direction.

Who am I?

I’m a personal coach, a senior lecturer in psychology and a trained mentor for degree-level students with mental health needs. I’m also a school governor for two schools, responsible for student welfare, and co-ordinator of the Pupil Premium, a funding strategy that aims to maximise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities.

My qualifications include:

  • MSc (Organisational Psychology)
  • BSc (Hons) (Psychology)
  • MBPsS (Member British Psychological society)
  • DTTLS (Diploma in teaching)
  • RQTU (Registered qualified in psychological assessments)
  • MLBF (Member of London Institute for Banking)

What to expect from my blog?

Nothing makes me happier than knowing I’ve helped fellow mums take even just a few steps towards financial independence and a positive state of mental well-being.

From money-saving tips and family budgeting advice, to top tips on how to retain a sense of calm in the midst of a crisis, to stacks of finance related resources including how to get the most out of your savings, sorting out your pension plan, clearing debt and planning your next educational or career move, I intend to share all the hacks and useful guidance I can lay my hands on, in the hope of helping make a difference to you.
